Bhim Vakani (1942–2026) was a versatile Indian actor, director, and painter primarily known for his extensive work in Gujarati theatre and supporting roles in major Bollywood films. He gained widespread recognition as the father of television actors Disha Vakani (Dayaben) and Mayur Vakani (Sundarlal) from the sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Films: He appeared in several critically acclaimed and blockbuster Bollywood movies, including:

Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001)

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

Lajja (2001)

Television: He made a cameo appearance in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as the character Mauji Chheda.

Gujarati Theatre: He was a respected veteran in regional theatre, contributing as both an actor and director.

Arts: Beyond performing, he was also an accomplished painter. 

Family: He played a pivotal role in mentoring and building the careers of his children, Disha and Mayur.

Passing: Bhim Vakani passed away at the age of 84 on April 6, 2026, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Health: In his later years, he had been dealing with health complications, including a period of paralysis.
